LAGSCA congratulates member Sijia Chen on the acquisition of her painting, A Great Disruption, by the world-famous Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The painting, A Great Disruption, presents a collaborative study of migration in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Chen invited the Asian community to share material related to their experience of the pandemic, which she used to create paper-cut images of architectural and natural scenes. The collage forms an image that both emulates and disrupts the aesthetic of traditional Chinese landscape paintings.

Sijia Chen holds an M.F.A. degree from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and a B.F.A. degree from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions including at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK; Guangdong Art Museum, Guangzhou, China; Today Art Museum, Beijing, China; Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA; Guangdong Folk Art Museum, Guangzhou, China; and FEI Gallery, Guangzhou, China. Chen’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Guangdong Art Museum, the Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Museum of Shantou University, and the Inside-Out Art Museum. Chen’s public artwork is on permanent display in Claremont, CA; North Kansas City, MO; Portsmouth, NH; Shantou, China; Seattle-Tacoma International Airport;  and Jieyang-Chaoshan International Airport.

Sijia Chen lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
