The Full Story

The Los Angeles-Guangzhou Sister City Association, established in 1981, is part of Sister Cities International, founded in the 1950’s by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. The purpose of the Los Angeles-Guangzhou Sister City Association is to promote friendly ties between the cities of Guangzhou and Los Angeles, as well as between the United States and China.

 

Camaraderie is created through cultural, educational, scientific, health services, sports, trade and commercial exchanges between the two cities. An active association of “citizen diplomats” volunteer their time, expertise and talents along with the government of the City of Los Angeles.

Our Goals

  • Foster true friendship and understanding between the people of Los Angeles and the people of Guangzhou as well as between the people of the United States and China

  • Contribute to the knowledge of our two peoples through the promotion of exchanges of delegations and distinguished visitors in the arts, culture, education, health services, science, sports, trade & economics, and industry

  • Create scholarships for educational and scientific purposes

  • Educate citizens through sponsorship of lectures, special courses, conferences, exhibitions, films and panel discussions

  • Host visiting delegations and individuals from Guangzhou as well as from other cities in China where appropriate
